This 4" x 5.5" intaglio self portrait is from my 1988 UGA Master of Fine Arts thesis, Facing Life: Computer Assisted, Photo-etched, and Viscosity Printed. The image was digitized with a camera connected to a Macintosh SE computer. The laser print was contacted printed to high contrast film in a darkroom to make the large, transparent positive needed to expose a photo-sensitive zinc plate. After washing away the unexposed coating, the plate was etched in acid to create the deep texture needed to viscosity print with three colors of ink onto archival paper. |
