Art-Batik

Adehoumi Sikirou Shola founded Art-Batik in Yaounde, Cameroon, in 1992. Adehoumi began painting in 1969 and in 1971 he studied batik and serigraphy at the National Center for Arts in Ouagadougou. He first exhibited his batiks in 1972 at the American Cultural Center of Abidjan (Ivory Coast). Since that time, he has exhibited in France and at the French Cultural Center in Cotonou (Benin), the Goethe Institute, the Jacques Aka Cultural Center in Bouake, and the Douala French Cultural Center (Cameroon). Adehoumi returned to his native Benin in 1994. Since that time his son, Waliou (known as Walas) has run the business.

An image is stamped onto cotton with wax that resists dye. Or an image can be drawn, then painted with wax. The cloth is next dyed with colorfast German dyes, then the wax is removed.
